1860-61 QV 1d carmine-rose clean cut perf 14 at Somerset House, wmk small star, with part of barred 'CANCELLED' h/s in LR corner applied by Perkins Bacon. (This being one of the so called "Ormond Hill Specimens" when in 1861 Perkins Bacon supplied 6 examples of many of their current & earlier issues to Rowland Hill's son in law. Despite the fact that all these stamps were obliterated with the "CANCELLED" h/s, the Agent-General for the Crown Colonies vehemently objected, and this led directly to Perkins Bacon losing their stamp printing contracts to Thomas De La Rue). F-VF, o/c & with shifted perfs partly separated by scissors as always, nice bright color. SG 12(var) cat £9500. Great Qld rarity as only 6 examples produced and previously only 4 were recorded before this example was discovered last year. 2018 Ceremuga photo-cert. (P)AVAILABLE at A$8000
